One of those heroes (JSK) will be unemployed if Thompson wins in November.

I seriously doubt she will have trouble getting another job. A fitting step would be for her to join Obama - transportation on the national level.

But even if she became homeless, the trade-off would be more than worth it.

It's like voting for Cheney to keep Powell.

I hear you. But it will be a huge freaking loss for NYC.

BTW - JSK is no Colin Powell. She is perfect.

This election is about Bloomberg's subversion of democracy.

I don't care about merely one specific member of his extensive team.

Thompson said if elected, he would rip out the Grand Street bike lane and review other ones put in by the Bloomberg Administration.

"You can't put bike lanes that are doing damage to local businesses."

That sounds like the subversion of democracy to me - in favor of business. Take the street back from the people, and give it back to the trucks? And the consumers?

I know. That's what politicians do. But what are you talking about? Who voted for bike lanes?

We did vote for term limits.

In all seriousness, I don't care about the fucking bike lanes. My biking experience was ten times better before the lanes. It has been far more dangerous for me since the lanes went down, not to mention the constant police harassment.

We don't need bike lanes. We need to get rid of all the fucking cars.

Bicyclist and pedestrian traffic fatalities are up, while traffic summonses are down: that's the terrifying fact buried deep in the numbers of this year's Mayor's Management Report.

Is that true about bike/ped fatalities? The 9thave lane alone reduced those collisions by 40% on the streets that had the protected lanes. If the stats are up we would have to find out exactly where and why.

The activists, over a period of years, convinced the city to add the bike lanes. It is not exactly voting, but it is very much democracy in its purest form - the citizens have to be constantly engaged with their 'representatives.'

My favorite thing about the bike lanes/bus lanes/pedestrianizing is precisely that it begins to take the surface space away from cars. JSK always mentions this.

I agree about the cars, congestion pricing really would have helped.

Thompson loves cars though! He thinks business only thrives when you have cheap parking AND he wants to reduce parking tickets!...I mean seriously?

I am not voting for Bloomy - so don't get me wrong. But Thompson is very worrysome for people who are environmentally minded (and especially bikers).

I guess we'll be back to picketing the DOT when he brings in another Weinshall type. I hate the Dems in this state! They always break my fucking heart.

That almost made me smile today, the thought that we would have the chance to picket Thompson.

All good points, and the Dems make me pretty sick as well (and in more states than NY).

Once again, as in every election since I've been of age to vote in this wonderful land, I will be voting against the man I hate the most. I'm pretty sure I've never actually voted "for" someone.

Oh, and the separated lanes are the way to go - although just last week while eating lunch I watched an unmarked minivan with two cops nearly kill a biker as they sped down the bike lane. No sirens. No lights. Juts two assholes in NYPD outfits who didn't want to wait for the light.

What about Spitzer?

That's my favorite thing about Thompson is that he would try to stick it to the cops more....but he would probably fail.

The NYPD are the worst thing about living in NYC, by far.

I got doored by a rich lady last night, left a nice scratch on her Bentley or whatever that fucking thing was.
